"When Yun Li and Yun Peng joined us from China, they didn't speak English, and I didn't speak Mandarin. Seeing them pass their Cambridge exams and transition into school taught me that perseverance and creativity can overcome any language barrier."

"I had a 4-year-old student who refused to read, throwing tantrums and hiding in corners. Standard flashcards and worksheets weren't working. Knowing he needed a different approach, I turned reading into a physical hunt using magnetic alphabets and cards. Suddenly, he was laughing, giggling, and smoothly reading 30 words in one sitting! It's up to us as educators to find the exact type of intelligence and interest that fits each student so they can thrive."

"Students pay more attention than we think. I had misplaced my whiteboard pointer stick, and though it didn't bother me much, one of my students noticed. Days later, she brought me a new pointer she bought herself just because she noticed I wasn't using one. It humbled me to see how observant and caring our classrooms can be."

"Gong Hao was a fast, excited learner but terrified of making mistakes. Whenever he got an answer wrong, he'd feel incredibly disappointed. I constantly reminded him, 'It's okay, good try! Mistakes help us learn.' Over time, his fear faded. Teaching isn't just about transferring knowledge; it's about building the confidence to try."
Rising to the Challenge
"Jia Jia, a 17-year-old student, told me she wanted to focus heavily on grammar. Her favourite word was 'Why?'. If I gave her an answer, she wanted the exact reasoning behind it. To help her, we threw out the standard books and dove deep into advanced explanations and custom worksheets. She challenges me to be incredibly precise, proving that we tailor our lessons to exactly what the student needs."
